Our Approach to Treatment

At The MindCounsel, our approach to treatment goes beyond symptom reduction.

We want to understand the factors that are causing a patient’s symptoms, and using that knowledge, select interventions that are:

  • effective in treating your symptoms
  • tolerable with little-to-no side effects
  • sustainable for long-term use

There are four tenets that make up this approach to treatment:

  • Thoughtful Evaluation
  • Evidence-Based Medication Management
  • Metabolic Awareness
  • Collaborative Care

Four Tenets of Care

These are the four components that make up the standard of psychiatry services and care that you can look forward to receiving at The MindCounsel. Our goal is for our psychiatrists to meet these standards at every single appointment.

Thoughtful Evaluation

Whenever we start meeting with a patient, we begin by carefully reviewing their symptoms, the medical and environmental context of the symptoms, and the patient’s previous treatment experiences.

We never want to carelessly diagnose a patient, our goal is to look at patterns and identify what the evidence suggests.

Evidence-Based Medication Management

If a patient’s treatment plan will require medication management, we will always prescribe medications that have been proven by scientific studies to be effective and reliable.

Our providers will make sure to explain every medication’s background, benefits, side effects, and alternatives in a way that you can understand.

Metabolic Awareness

We recognize that mental health and metabolic health become connected when medications are involved in treatment.

Whenever we will discuss a medication, you can expect us to inform you about any possible medication effects on weight, appetite, sedation, and energy. Our goal is for you to be informed throughout the process.

Collaborative Care

We believe that what makes psychiatry services effective is the recognition that the patient is the expert on their lived experience.

We will make sure that you can provide your input about every aspect of your treatment. Furthermore, we will make sure to move at a pace that isn’t overwhelming so that you can remain involved in your treatment.
