What to Expect

Here at The MindCounsel, our promise is to give you a clear structure of what to expect from our psychiatry services so that you’re not wondering what happens next.

Initial Visit

Appointment Duration: 60 minutes

What to Expect: During the initial visit with a psychiatrist, we will review your concerns, ask about the timeline of your symptoms, look at your medical and treatment history, and identify any important treatment goals. Some of the questions that you can expect us to ask include:

  • What have you noticed has changed with your mental health?
  • What have you tried so far? This could include therapy, medications, or even lifestyle changes.
  • Are there any side effects or metabolic concerns that you want us to consider when choosing a medication?

These questions will help us identify clearly-reasoned, next-step options for your treatment.

Follow-Up Visits

Appointment Duration: 30 minutes

What to Expect: During a follow-up visit, our focus will be on how you are responding to and tolerating your medication. We will take note of:

  • What symptoms are improving?
  • What symptoms are unchanged?
  • What side effects, if any, are you experiencing?
  • What are your current thoughts on continuing the medication?

We want to make sure that any adjustments to your medication are grounded in your experiences and preferences.
